Spring is in the air and we’re delighted to be calling out for young people to join Chameleon Youth, our youth dance company based at Manchester Central Library.

If you’re age 11 to 18 with raw dance talent, and a big desire to dance and be creative, then this is an opportunity for you!

Launched last year, Chameleon Youth presents an incredible opportunity to develop as a young dance artist and to be part of a dance company that is inspiring and different to the mainstream.

Chameleon Youth is the only youth dance company in Manchester that is part of a professional dance company. Youth company members are taught by professional dance artists and benefit directly from the knowledge and experience gained through worldwide professional touring and performance.

In terms of dance style, the framework is provided by Chameleon’s unique movement language, which has developed from producing dance theatre for stage, for the last ten years. From contemporary dance and capoeira to hip hop and ballet, members develop their skills through a rich mix of dance and movement influences.

Along with developing dance skills, fitness ability and physical awareness, the Chameleon Youth programme also creates the opportunity for young people to develop confidence through self-expression and working with others.

Here, Chameleon Youth company members, Lidia Lourenco and Chlöe Burgess, explain further, by sharing their thoughts on being in Chameleon Youth in the last year.

Talking about the call out to young people, Kevin Edward Turner, our Co-Artistic Director said: “It’s been amazing to see the young people in the first year of the youth company feel the benefits of dance as a creative force. It’s felt like a privilege to see them develop as individuals through movement and connect their own ideas with physical expression. We can’t wait to build on the successes of the company in its first year and this begins with welcoming new young people from across Manchester and Greater Manchester to join us.”

All levels welcome. Dance experience is by no means essential, what’s most important is a positive attitude, loads of enthusiasm and a big desire to dance and be creative.
